The first hemp aeroplane

Whenever most media speaks about hemp they still use corny titles like “flying high” and “high hopes”, but truth speaks louder than words. Hemp which contains less than 1% THC compared to its medicinal cousin (which is saving children from dravets syndrome and more diseases) is gaining more and more attention with innovative projects that are likely to replace less eco friendlier options in multiple sectors of industry. One of the most exciting products of hemp is hemp composites, very strong, fire resistant and light they have huge potential not only in car design (like the new bmw i3 series) but also in aircraft design. Like most breakthroughs this is a crowdfunded project which is already well underway.

The hemp plane is a four-seater, two engine aircraft with a cruising speed a little over 210 miles per hour (340 kph), a wingspan of 36 feet (12 metres), that will be built from at least 75% hemp; which includes the wings, seats, pillows, and outer shell. It will be the colour of natural hemp fibre and the plan is for it to run completely on hemp-bio fuel.
