The state of hemp in Sweden

Its interesting times for hemp in Sweden, there seems to be a surge of new farmers growing hemp despite a recent incident involving police ripping out and essentially destroying a legal hemp grow and not accepting any real wrongdoing ( www.magicherb.se ). Compensation for that crop seems to be unlikely.

However besides governments lack of knowledge of the differences between hemp and thc high cannabis the hemp industry is making great strides in building, clothing, food an other sectors. We have picked out some of our most exciting projects happening.

Hoppet:

The City of Gothenburg’s have decided that the local government should investigate and as far as possible to build a fossil-free preschool. The planned preschool shall, as far as possible, be built fossil-free with a minimal climate footprint – in everything from material production to transport – and where any remaining climate footprint will be compensated. Swedish hemp companies house of hemp and ekolution are both mentioned in the project, we will follow up with interviews with both companies. It is extremely hopeful that the city of Gothenburg is not only investing energy into this project but looking into hemp as a integral part of climate friendly construction.

Hooly hemp

Being in line with our dream of moving to the country and growing hemp as well as being more self sustainable, I stumbled upon this podcast about John Hedström, a hemp farmer from Sweden with his own brand called Hooly Hemp. A mention must go out to Clara Norell who has among many things bought the swedish hemp community together and shone a light on Sweden in the international hemp arena. The need for a hemp processing plant and help from the government seems to be integral if the industry is to truly take off. However the recent discussion about cbd legality and opening of the cbd market within Sweden is hopeful. That and the growing awareness of the general public and key industry players in construction, clothing and food seem to be a good foundation for the hemp industry to truly blossom.
